The Powerball jackpot also continues to roll and is up to an estimated $126 million for the Saturday, April 4 drawing. A total of 51,579 North Carolina Powerball players won prizes in last night’s Powerball drawing, ranging from $30,000 down to $3 for a total payout in prizes worth $423,591. Four North Carolina tickets in the Wednesday, April 1 Powerball drawing matched four out of five white balls plus the Powerball. One of the four tickets was Power Played and is worth $30,000 since the Power Play multiplier was three. This ticket was sold at Market Express on Seaside Road in Sunset Beach. The other three tickets that matched four out of five white balls plus the Powerball were not Power Played and are worth $10,000 each. They were sold at the North Carolina Education Lottery (NCEL) Regional Claim Center on Market Street in Wilmington, Food Lion on North Church Street in Burlington, and Aztex on Highway 64 East in Hayesville. In instant scratch-off news, Phillip Lee of Garner says his recent lottery win was thanks to a quick stop at the Airport Boulevard Mobile in Morrisville to buy a pack of gum. While there, he decided to buy two “$200,000 Jackpot” tickets, one of which turned out to be a top prize winner! Lee scratched off the tickets at home and says he didn’t believe that he’d really won $200,000. After all, he’d bought the ticket on April Fools’ Day! Lee says the majority of his winnings will go into the bank, but he may use a small amount as extra spending money for an already planned trip to the beach. The NCEL’s “Mega Bucks” ticket made players in Sampson and Martin counties very happy this week. Rodney Hill of Williamston and Eric Sandy of Roseboro each claimed the $100,000 top prize. Hill bought his winning “Mega Bucks” ticket at the Piggly Wiggly #76 on Washington Street in Williamston. As he scratched it off, he says he thought he’d won $100, but then he saw three extra zeros and realized that he’d won “the big one.” Hill says he plans to start a small business detailing cars with his winnings. A stop to break a twenty dollar bill made Sandy a winner. He says he needed change, so he stopped at the Express Market #10 on Highway 701 in Clinton and bought one $5 “Mega Bucks” ticket. When he got home, Sandy gave the ticket to his wife to scratch off. She soon brought the ticket back to him to confirm what she was seeing—that it was worth $100,000! Sandy says he may use his winnings as a down payment on a house. The NCEL has paid out more than $5.2 million total in instant scratch-off ticket prizes since Monday, March 30. Also since Monday, “Carolina Cash 5” players have won more than $267,000 and “Carolina Pick 3” players have won more than $960,000 in prizes.
