She claimed the $50,000 a year for life* prize and has already received her first check, which after taxes was $34,003.20.

Rosine Smith of Roanoke Rapids says she was afraid to get happy after realizing her "Carolina Cash 5" ticket for the April 28 drawing matched all five numbers drawn and was worth $258,563. After receiving her check, though, which was $175,824.16 after taxes, she kissed the check and said, "I can smile now!"

Smith, a retired schoolteacher, bought her winning ticket at New Dixie on Julian Allsbrook Highway in Roanoke Rapids. She says she picked her own numbers which were a mix of anniversary and birthdays, as well as some random numbers. Smith says she will use part of her winnings to pay the expenses for an upcoming family reunion.

One ticket in the May 4 "Carolina Cash 5" drawing matched all five numbers drawn to win the $267,437 top prize. The ticket was sold at Tri Star Mobile on Durham/Chapel Hill Boulevard in Durham. It has yet to be claimed.

One ticket in the May 5 "Carolina Cash 5" drawing matched all five numbers drawn to win the $50,000 top prize. The ticket was sold at Peace Village on St. Mary's Street in Raleigh.
