RALEIGH - John Williams of Tellico Plains, Tenn., got a nice souvenir from his recent trip to North Carolina to visit his daughter. He bought two "Mega Bucks" instant scratch-off tickets from Cruizers #21 on Hillsborough Road in Durham, and one of them turned out to be worth $100,000, which after taxes was $68,001.60.

Williams says he enjoys playing the North Carolina Education Lottery (NCEL) when he's visiting, but that both he and his daughter didn't believe it when his ticket revealed the top prize. He plans to spend his winnings on his grandchildren and a vacation.

One ticket in the May 7 "Carolina Cash 5" drawing matched all five numbers drawn to win the $75,354 top prize. The ticket was sold at Samir's #3 on U.S. Highway 2215 in Marion. It was claimed by Lisa Lidberg of Union Mills.

The next night, one ticket in the May 8 "Carolina Cash 5" drawing matched all five numbers drawn to win the $50,000 top prize. The ticket was sold at Cupid's Boutique on North Reilly Road in Fayetteville. It has yet to be claimed.

The Powerball jackpot continues to roll. The jackpot for the Wednesday, May 13 Powerball drawing is an estimated $129 million!

In the Saturday, May 9 Powerball drawing, three tickets matched four out of five white balls plus the Powerball. Two of the three tickets were Power Played and are worth $30,000 each since the Power Play multiplier was three. These tickets were sold at Bi-Lo on East Broad Street in Statesville and Debs Mini Mart on Highway 9 South in Columbus.

The other ticket that matched four out of five white balls plus the Powerball was not Power Played and is worth $10,000. The ticket was sold at Catamount Travel Center on Little Savannah Road in Cullowhee.

A total of 50,250 North Carolina Powerball players won prizes in the Saturday, May 9 Powerball drawing, ranging from $30,000 down to $3 for a total payout in prizes worth $416,181.

The NCEL has paid out more than $5.4 million total in instant scratch-off ticket prizes since Thursday, May 7. Also since Thursday, "Carolina Cash 5" players have won more than $235,000. "Carolina Pick 4" players have won more than $345,000, and 14 tickets were sold that won the top prize of $5,000. "Carolina Pick 3" players have won more than $1.3 million.
