NCEL - LEE COUNTY MAN WINS $100,000 ON "MEGA BUCKS"

RALEIGH - Brian Boles of Sanford usually plays $1 and $2 instant scratch-off games. But on the morning of Monday, May 18, he decided to buy a $5 "Mega Bucks" ticket and won a $100,000 cash prize, which was $68,001.60 after taxes.

Boles says he was shocked when he realized he had won the top prize. He purchased his ticket at Fastee Mart on Lee Avenue in Sanford. Boles and his wife plan to put the winnings toward a down payment on a house and a new truck.

The Powerball jackpot continues to roll. The jackpot for the Wednesday, May 20 Powerball drawing is an estimated $170 million!

In the Saturday, May 16 Powerball drawing, one ticket matched all five white balls and is worth $200,000! This ticket was sold at Islander Kwik Mart on South Second Street in Kure Beach. It has yet to be claimed.

Two tickets in Saturday night's drawing matched four out of five white balls plus the Powerball. One of the tickets was Power Played and is worth $20,000 since the Power Play multiplier was two. This ticket was sold at Wilco #348 on Highway 70 Southwest in Hickory. The other ticket that matched four out of five white balls plus the Powerball was not Power Played and is worth $10,000. This ticket was sold at Wilco #181 on West 15th Street in Washington.

A total of 50,816 North Carolina Powerball players won prizes in the Saturday, May 16 Powerball drawing, ranging from $200,000 down to $3 for a total payout in prizes worth $510,437.

The "Carolina Cash 5" top prize also continues to roll. The estimated top prize for tonight's drawing is $516,000! A player must match all five numbers drawn to win the top prize.

"Carolina Pick 3" players saw "triples" on Saturday. Triple 7s were drawn on Saturday's evening "Carolina Pick 3" drawing, producing a payout total of more than $1.3 million. The last time triple 7s hit was on December 16, 2007.

The North Carolina Education Lottery (NCEL) has paid out more than $5.1 million total in instant scratchoff ticket prizes since Thursday, May 14. Also since Thursday, "Carolina Cash 5" players have won more than $196,000. "Carolina Pick 4" players have won nearly $300,000, and nine tickets were sold that won the top prize of $5,000. "Carolina Pick 3" players have won more than $2.6 million.
