Two North Carolina tickets in Saturday's Powerball drawing matched four out of five white balls plus the Powerball making each worth $10,000. James Cook of Charlotte bought a winning ticket at the Gate on Rocky River Road in Charlotte. The other ticket sold at Wilco on Crew Drive in Emerald Isle has yet to be claimed. A total of 50,714 North Carolina Powerball players won prizes in the Saturday, May 23 Powerball drawing, ranging from $10,000 to $3 for a total payout in prizes worth $663,257. A dinner outing and an unplanned purchase afterwards led to a $200,000 Powerball prize for Christina Horgan of Concord and Amy Horgan of Carolina Beach. They had just finished eating when they decided to walk to the nearby Islander Kwik Mart in Kure Beach to get a Powerball ticket for the May 16 drawing. The Horgans say that their split prize will enable them to do more traveling! The winning ticket, which is worth $136,001.60 after taxes, matched all five white balls drawn. In the May 24 "Carolina Cash 5" drawing, one ticket matched all five numbers drawn to win the $141,400 top prize. The ticket was sold at Iredell Oil on Wilkesboro Highway in Statesville. The next day, a ticket matching all five numbers drawn in the May 25 "Carolina Cash 5" drawing was sold at Food Lion on US Highway 1 North in Youngsville. Both tickets have yet to be claimed. The North Carolina Education Lottery (NCEL) has paid out more than $6.3 million total in instant scratch-off ticket prizes since Thursday, May 21. Also since Thursday, “Carolina Cash 5†players have won more than $326,116. "Carolina Pick 4" players have won nearly $389,100 and 11 tickets were sold that won the top prize of $5,000. "Carolina Pick 3" players have won more than $1 million.
