NCEL - CHARLOTTE MAN CLAIMS "CAROLINA CASH 5" TICKET WORTH $688,283
-Powerball Ticket Worth $200,000 Sold in Durham-
RALEIGH - Mark Hamlin says he let out a joyous yell after realizing he’d won $688,283 playing “Carolina Cash 5.” The Charlotte man picked his own numbers for the Oct. 29 drawing and matched all five numbers drawn to win the top prize.

Hamlin purchased his winning ticket at Food Lion on Albemarle Road in Charlotte. He received $468,032.76 after taxes and says he will use his winnings to buy a house and pay off his car loan. He will also use some for his and his fiancé’s upcoming wedding expenses. Hamlin’s $688,283 prize is the third highest top prize won in the game’s history.

The “Carolina Cash 5” drawing on Halloween was especially sweet with two tickets matching all five numbers to split the $83,438 top prize. The tickets, each worth $41,719, were sold at Handy Mart on Kingold Boulevard in Snow Hill and Forest Hills Family Fare on University Drive in Durham.

In Powerball news, one ticket sold in North Carolina for the Oct. 31 Powerball drawing matched all five white balls and is worth $200,000! The ticket was sold at Kangaroo Express on Hope Valley Road in Durham and has yet to be claimed.

In addition, one North Carolina ticket matched four out of five white balls plus the Powerball and is worth $10,000. This ticket was sold at Quality Mart on Presidential Drive in Durham.

A total of 40,120 North Carolina Powerball players won prizes in the Saturday, Oct. 31 Powerball drawing ranging from $200,000 to $3 for a total payout in prizes worth $619,667. No one matched all five white balls plus the Powerball, so the jackpot for the Nov. 4 Powerball drawing is an estimated $66 million.

The North Carolina Education Lottery (NCEL) has paid out more than $6.6 million total in instant scratch-off ticket prizes since Thursday, Oct. 29. Also since Thursday, “Carolina Pick 3” players have won more than $812,000. “Carolina Pick 4” players have won more than $231,000 and six tickets won the top prize of $5,000. “Carolina Cash 5” players have won nearly $966,000.
