NCEL - DURHAM MAN CLAIMS $200,000 POWERBALL PRIZE
-Power Played Ticket Worth $1 Million Sold in Haywood County-
RALEIGH - One number was the difference for a Durham man who carried a Powerball ticket worth $200,000 in his pocket for several days after the Oct. 31 drawing thinking he had won just $7. John Postiglione told NCEL officials that the discovery of the actual size of the Powerball prize came when his wife checked the numbers online. He said he normally plays the same set of randomly-selected numbers, but “accidentally” played the number 41 instead of 42.

Postiglione said he and his wife plan to pay off their house in full and share some of the winnings with family for the holidays. He purchased his winning ticket, worth $136,000.02 after taxes, at the Kangaroo Express on Hope Valley Road in Durham.

Someone is holding a Powerball ticket worth $1 million! The ticket for last night’s drawing, which matched all five white balls and was Power Played, was sold at Mountain Energy on South Main Street in Waynesville. It has yet to be submitted for claim.

Another ticket in last night’s Powerball drawing also matched all five white balls but was not Power Played. The ticket, which has yet to be submitted for claim, is worth $200,000 and was sold at the Dash In on North Arendell Avenue in Zebulon.

In addition, three tickets sold in North Carolina matched four out of five white balls plus the Powerball. Two of the three tickets were Power Played and are worth $30,000 each since the Power Play multiplier was three. These tickets were sold at Jo Ja's Superette on Norwood Street in Lenoir and the Market Center Express on Sweeten Creek Road in Arden.

The other ticket that matched four out of five white balls plus the Powerball in last night’s drawing was not Power Played and is worth $10,000. It was sold at the Fast Track on Rocky Branch Road in Hamptonville (Yadkin County).

A total of 41,337 North Carolina Powerball players won prizes in the Wednesday, Nov. 4 Powerball drawing ranging from $1 Million to $3 for a total payout in prizes worth $1,562,984. Because no one matched all five white balls plus the Powerball, the jackpot for the Saturday, Nov. 7 Powerball drawing is an estimated $80 million.

The North Carolina Education Lottery (NCEL) has paid out more than $5.3 million total in instant scratch-off ticket prizes since Monday, Nov. 2. Also since Monday, “Carolina Pick 3” players have won more than $707,000. “Carolina Pick 4” players have won more than $495,000 and 30 tickets won the top prize of $5,000. “Carolina Cash 5” players have won nearly $192,000.
