NCEL - FAYETTEVILLE MAN WINS $200,000 POWERBALL PRIZE
-Sampson County Man Wins $100,000 on New Holiday Scratch-off Game-
RALEIGH - George Lilly Jr. says he is planning to do something nice for his favorite aunt after winning $200,000 playing Powerball. The Fayetteville man matched all five white balls drawn in the Nov. 14 Powerball drawing to win the top non-jackpot prize.

Lilly says he didn’t realize he’d won big until he took the ticket to a retailer to be scanned. It was then that he was told that he would have to claim his winnings at the North Carolina Education Lottery (NCEL) headquarters in Raleigh. Lilly purchased his winning ticket, worth $136,000.32 after taxes, at the Kangaroo Express on Rosehill Road in Fayetteville.

In last night’s Powerball drawing, one ticket sold in North Carolina matched four out of five white balls plus the Powerball and is worth $10,000. This ticket was sold at Kangaroo Express on Highway 70 West in Clayton.

A total of 28,751 North Carolina Powerball players won prizes in the Wednesday, Nov. 18 Powerball drawing ranging from $10,000 to $3 for a total payout in prizes worth $240,896. No one matched all five white balls plus the Powerball to win the jackpot, so the jackpot for the Saturday, Nov. 21 Powerball drawing is an estimated $32 million.

Christopher Gilchrist of Clinton has kicked off the holiday season with some extra jingle, thanks to having won the top prize on the “Jingle Big Ol’ Bucks” instant scratch-off game. Gilchrist says he bought one ticket and couldn’t believe it when he realized it was worth $100,000.

Gilchrist purchased his winning ticket, worth $68,001.60 after taxes, at Happy Mart on Northeast Boulevard in Clinton. He says he will buy some new clothes and shoes with some of his winnings.

The NCEL has paid out more than $4.5 million total in instant scratch-off ticket prizes since Monday, Nov. 16. Also since Monday, “Carolina Pick 3” players have won more than $867,000. “Carolina Pick 4” players have won more than $134,000 and three tickets won the top prize of $5,000. “Carolina Cash 5” players have won more than $90,000.
