The first Mega Millions drawing available to North Carolina players will be Tuesday, Feb. 2. Mega Millions drawings are held Tuesday and Friday nights. The NCEL will continue to offer Powerball and those drawings are held on Wednesday and Saturday nights. Mega Millions jackpots start at $12 million and continue to grow until won. Mega Millions holds the record for the largest annuity-based prize ever awarded — $390 million in March 2007. The largest Powerball jackpot was $365 million, hit in February 2006. The NCEL has had two Powerball jackpot winners since launching the game in North Carolina. Jackie Alston of Halifax won $74.5 million in the Nov. 29, 2006 Powerball drawing. Jeff Wilson of Kings Mountain was the most recent North Carolina winner hitting the June 20, 2009 Powerball jackpot that was worth $88.1 million.
