After winning $20 on a “$200 Million Extravaganza” instant scratch-off game, a Boone man purchased another ticket for the same game and won $100,000 instantly! Bennie Wilson told NCEL officials he was “elated” to win the prize money, which totaled $68,001 after taxes. He purchased his winning ticket at the Kangaroo Express on Blowing Rock Road in Boone. Powerball players in North Carolina need to check their tickets! One ticket is worth $200,000 after it matched all five white balls in the Wednesday, Feb. 3 drawing. It was sold at the Handee Hugo on Western Boulevard in Jacksonville. The retailer is eligible for the $1,000 retailer incentive for selling the winning ticket. Two tickets matched four out of five white balls and the Powerball, and are worth $10,000 each. Those tickets were sold at the Quality Mart on New Hope Church Road in Raleigh and at Gray’s Citgo on Kinston Highway in Richlands (Onslow County). A total of 44,186 North Carolina Powerball players won prizes in the Wednesday, Feb. 3 Powerball drawing ranging from $3 to $200,000 for a total payout in prizes worth $465,112. Because no tickets matched all five white balls and the Powerball, the jackpot for the Saturday, Feb. 6 Powerball drawing is an estimated $140 million. On Tuesday, Feb. 2, in the first Mega Millions drawing available to North Carolina players, a total of 11,030 players won prizes ranging from $3 to $600 for a total payout in prizes worth $83,584. Because no tickets matched all five white balls and the Mega Ball, the jackpot for the Friday, Feb. 5 Mega Millions drawing is an estimated $20 million. Tickets first went on sale for Mega Millions on Sunday, Jan. 31. Mega Millions drawings are held Tuesday and Friday nights. The North Carolina Education Lottery (NCEL) has paid out over $5.6 million total in instant scratch-off ticket prizes since Monday, Feb. 1. Also since Monday, “Carolina Pick 3” players have won over $668,000, “Carolina Pick 4” players have won more than $250,000 and 12 tickets won the top prize of $5,000. “Carolina Cash 5” players have won over $179,000.
