Powerball players purchased four tickets worth between $10,000 and $200,000 for the Saturday, Aug. 21 drawing. A $200,000 ticket sold at the Scotchman on Pine Grove Road in Wilmington matched all five white balls. A ticket which matched four white balls and the Power Ball was sold at The Service Mart on Highway 210 in Smithfield. The ticket is worth $20,000 because the ticket was Power Played and the multiplier was two. Two other tickets matched four white balls and the Power Ball, but were not Power Played. Those tickets, worth $10,000 each, were sold at the Wilco Hess on U.S. Highway 70 West in Clayton and at the Handee Hugo on Western Boulevard in Jacksonville. Last but not least, a lucky “Carolina Cash 5” ticket worth $183,289 was purchased at the Wilco Hess on West Cumberland Street in Dunn. The ticket matched all five balls in the Saturday, Aug. 21 drawing. The Cash 5 top prize had been rolling since it was last won on Monday, Aug. 16 when two tickets split the top prize to win $89,719 each. A total of 12,985 North Carolina players won prizes in the most recent Mega Millions drawing, ranging from $2 to $1 million for a total payout in prizes of $1,114,657. Because no tickets matched all six balls in the drawing, the jackpot for the Tuesday, Aug. 24 drawing is an estimated $115 million if taken as an annuity or $79.5 million if the lump-sum payment is chosen. In the Powerball drawing held on Saturday, a total of 34,484 players won prizes ranging from $3 to $200,000 for a total payout in prizes of $457,819. Because a ticket sold in West Virginia matched all six balls in the drawing, the jackpot for the Wednesday, Aug. 25 drawing resets to $20 million if taken as an annuity or $11.2 million as a lump-sum payment. The North Carolina Education Lottery has paid out more than $4.9 million in instant scratch-off ticket prizes since Thursday, Aug. 19. “Carolina Pick 3” players have won more than $1.8 million. “Carolina Pick 4” players have won more than $250,000 including 13 tickets that won the top prize of $5,000. “Carolina Cash 5” players have won more than $577,000.
