Dennis Spears of Willow Spring in Wake County and Glenda Spears of Lillington in Harnett County, brother and sister, matched all five white balls in the Aug. 21 “Carolina Cash 5” drawing and won $183,289. They plan to use their split winnings, worth $62,318 each after taxes, to help their family and take a vacation. The ticket was purchased at Wilco Hess #362 on Cumberland Street in Dunn. Anna Broszkiewicz-Rowe of Kannapolis was happy when she found that she had scratched off the $100,000 top prize on her Super Monopoly ticket. She took home a prize of $68,001 after taxes. The ticket was purchased at Food Lion on Oak Avenue in Kannapolis. Players can still submit their non-winning tickets through Oct. 13 on the NCEL website (nc-educationlottery.org) to enter the final second chance drawing on Oct. 19. Players have a chance to win one of three grand prizes ($2,500 cash and a Premier Edition Monopoly board game) as well as one of 105 Premier Edition Monopoly board games and one of 175 Monopoly-branded prize packs. Denver Baker, a maintenance technician from Charlotte, is the most recent player to scratch his way to the $75,000 top prize on the Harley-Davidson® game. He plans to use his winnings, worth $50,694 after taxes, to take care of his family. As of Wednesday, Aug. 25, five $75,000 top prizes and five more Harley-Davidson motorcycles remain available to win instantly. Players can also enter their non-winning tickets online for a chance to win one of two remaining Harley-Davidson® motorcycles as well as one of 696 prize packs. The entry deadline is Sept. 1 for the Sept. 10 second-chance drawing. In the Powerball drawing held on Wednesday, Aug. 25, a total of 24,718 players won prizes ranging from $3 to $300 for a total payout in prizes of $173,056. Because no ticket matched all six balls in the drawing, the jackpot for the Saturday, Aug. 28 drawing is $25 million if taken as an annuity or $14 million as a lump-sum payment. A total of 14,918 North Carolina players won prizes in the Tuesday, Aug. 24 Mega Millions drawing, ranging from $2 to $450 for a total payout in prizes of $93,232. A $1 million winning ticket sold in Matthews from the Aug. 20 drawing has yet to be claimed.
