NCEL - Wilmington man claims $200,000 Powerball prize
-"Carolina Cash 5" top prize jumps to $377,000-
RALEIGH - Rodney Johnson of Wilmington was shocked when he realized that he had won $200,000 by matching all five white balls but not the Power Ball in the Aug. 21 Powerball drawing. His take home prize, after taxes, is $136,005. The ticket was purchased at Scotchman #180 on Pine Grove Road in Wilmington.

In the Powerball drawing held on Saturday, Aug. 28, a total of 28,215 players won prizes ranging from $3 to $400 for a total payout in prizes of $228,788. Because no ticket matched all six balls in the drawing, the jackpot for the Wednesday, Sept. 1 drawing is $34 million if taken as an annuity or $19.2 million as a lump-sum payment.

A total of 16,755 North Carolina players won prizes in the Friday, Aug. 27 Mega Millions drawing, ranging from $2 to $40,000 for a total payout in prizes of $172,074. One ticket matching all six balls in the drawing was sold in Morro Bay, California, and is worth an estimated $133 million. One $2 Megaplier ticket in North Carolina matched four white balls and the Mega Ball, and as the multiplier was four, is worth $40,000. The ticket was sold at New Hope Convenient Store on Nash Street in Wilson. The jackpot for the Tuesday, Aug. 31 drawing is reset to an estimated $12 million if taken as an annuity or $8.3 million if the lump-sum payment is chosen. A $1 million winning ticket sold in Matthews from the Aug. 20 drawing has yet to be claimed.

The “Carolina Cash 5” top prize is currently $377,000. It has rolled since the Aug. 21 drawing when a brother and sister team from Lillington and Willow Spring matched all five white balls and won $183,289.

The North Carolina Education Lottery has paid out more than $4.5 million in instant scratch-off ticket prizes since Thursday, Aug. 26. “Carolina Pick 3” players have won more than $827,000. “Carolina Pick 4” players have won more than $215,000 including 11 tickets that won the top prize of $5,000. “Carolina Cash 5” players have won more than $158,000.
