Latisha Sharpe of Battleboro had the five lucky numbers that won the $100,000 Cash 5 jackpot on Saturday.

Sharpe’s good luck occurred after she stopped by the Food Lion on N.C. 97 in Rocky Mount and bought her ticket on the day of the drawing. The ticket beat odds of one in 962,958 to win the jackpot.

She claimed the prize Wednesday at lottery headquarters in Raleigh. After required state and federal tax withholdings, she took home $70,501.

Sharpe was the second person to win a $100,000 starting jackpot under a new version of the game that began Sunday, Nov. 4. Previously, the starting jackpot was $50,000. The jackpot for tonight’s drawing is $198,000.

Cash 5 is a statewide draw game that gives players the chance to win a jackpot every single night. Tickets cost $1 and players can buy tickets at most lottery retailers or through Online Play on the lottery’s website, www.nclottery.com.

Ticket sales from draw games make it possible for the lottery to raise more than $650 million a year for education. For details on how lottery funds have made a difference in all of North Carolina’s 100 counties, click on the “Impact” section of the lottery’s website.
