The Mega Millions and Powerball jackpots are adding a bit more excitement to the New Year’s weekend as they each weigh in at more than $300 million.
Friday’s Mega Million jackpot is estimated at $306 million as an annuity, or $191.1 million cash. Saturday’s Powerball jackpot is even bigger, coming in at an estimated $384 million as an annuity, or $242.9 million cash.
Winning either would be a great way to ring in 2018.
The weekend marks only the second time when both games had jackpots of more than $300 million at the same time. The first time this happened was in August.
Here are some fun facts to keep in mind:
- Six Mega Million jackpots have been won so far this year, ranging from $42 million to $393 million.
- Two North Carolinians have won Mega Millions jackpots.
- If the Mega Millions jackpot rolls again on Friday, it will break into the Top 10 list for Mega Millions jackpot. The current No. 10 weighs in at $326 million.
- Seven Powerball jackpots have been won so far this year, ranging from $60 million to $758.7 million.
- Four North Carolinians have won Powerball jackpots.
Saturday’s Powerball jackpot is the 14th largest in history and the 20th largest jackpot in the U.S.
Remember, there are nine ways to win when you play Powerball or Mega Millions. So even if you don’t hit the jackpot, your ticket could still be a winner. So please check your tickets carefully.
The odds of winning the Mega Millions jackpot are 1 in 302 million. The odds of winning the Powerball jackpot are 1 in 292 million.
