Raleigh man to use $584,312 Cash 5 jackpot to make wife’s dream come true

Alexis Tejada Bueno of Raleigh said he plans to use a $584,312 Cash 5 jackpot to make his wife’s dream of opening her own nail salon come true.

“She’s wanted to do this for over 13 years,” Tejada Bueno said. “She’s excited to finally make it happen.”

Tejada Bueno bought the $1 Quick Pick ticket at the Raleigh Claim Center on Capital Boulevard in Raleigh. All of the lottery’s claim centers sell tickets in addition to helping players with lottery related business.

The ticket beat odds of one in 749,398 to win Thursday’s jackpot. He checked his numbers Friday morning when he took his son to the bus stop.

“I was happy,” Tejada Bueno said. “I went home, woke my wife up and told her, ‘I have a surprise for you!’ She didn’t believe me and told me to let her go back to sleep.”

Tejada Bueno claimed the jackpot a few hours later at lottery headquarters. After required state and federal tax withholdings, he took home $411,946.

these are my lucky numbers 13,14,21,31,32 good combination, never have they came out since the game started 13,14,21,31,32. i will be dead before i see these numbers come out. what a rip off NCEL you all should be ashame of yourselves.

I am glad I see that I'm not the only one who picked up on the fact that all big winning scratch off rolls are sent to stores in Raleigh & surrounding areas & winners for drawings are from those areas 85% of the time. Same goes for 2nd chance & Lucke Reward drawings. I'm close to 40 & just played the lottery for the 1st time a few months ago. I picked up on this quickly & that ended my very short lived time playing the lottery. Also, winning tickets are rare at bigger chain gas stations & stores. They go to smaller ones. I can't believe they don't try to make all of this less obvious. Even the cashier's at my local stores agreed.

LZ the Federal withholding is 24% not 25% as announced in the Jan. 29, 2018 blog. So the amount he received is correct after deducting 29.499% for taxes. NC Lottery

Faithfully buy 2 weeks worth of Cash 5 at a time. Disabled and hard to get to the store, so I buy 2 weeks worth at a time. Waiting for the day that my numbers match. Congrats to the lucky couple. Love seeing someone win, to help their family for the future. NC Lottery

I agree with Sherian. My plan from now on is to only buy tickets when I'm visiting Raleigh, the coast, Charlotte, or Fayetteville. Maybe then I will have a chance.

Why was the federal 25%? Should not be 35% based on the new tax law? Thanks NC Lottery
Federal income tax withholding on big lottery prizes is 24 percent. State is 5.499 percent. This is the required withholding. This is not the winner's income tax rate. That would depend on all other income the winner would have this year.

Congratulations and Hurray for your wife! I must agree that Raleigh does win alot in Cash 5! Four times already this year and we are only in the month of March! We have a joke in Winston that it should be renamed the Raleigh/Durham, Fayetteville, or Coastal Carolina Cash 5!

congrats i think cash 5 is a SCAM been playing these same combinations of numbers and they never played sine the game first started. when i see these number fall the i will think otherwise. always somebody that wins from Charlotte or Raleigh. I live in fayetteville no winners lately
