South Carolina couple wins $337,328 Cash 5 jackpot

A couple from Clover, S.C., Timothy Cerny and Victoria Evans, won Wednesday’s Cash 5 jackpot of $337,328.

They bought their lucky ticket at the Kangaroo Express on South Tryon Street in Charlotte.

Cerny and Evans claimed the prize Friday at lottery headquarters in Raleigh and split the jackpot to receive $168,664 each. After required state and federal tax withholdings, each took home $118,910.

Cash 5 is a statewide draw game that gives players the chance to win a jackpot every single night. Tickets cost $1 and players can buy tickets at most lottery retailers or through Online Play on the lottery’s website, www.nclottery.com.

Cash 5 jackpots normally start at $50,000, but during the month of August the lottery is starting the jackpot at $100,000 as part of a special $100K Days promotion.

I would like to ask how come ticket purchased at a location always wins the prizes and the little prizes go to people who play on line. No one who plays on line has never won any Jackpot. So why have an online win it's only pays out small prizes. We have a right to win big as well. Why should we keep playing on line. May someone look into this issue. NC Lottery
Games available through subscription services make up a small fraction of sales compared to in-store purchases. The odds of winning are the same if you play that way as they are if you buy a ticket in a store -- there are just far more people getting tickets the old fashioned way! However, we have had few winners through online play -- including a $55,000 Cash 5 jackpot winner from last night!

I almost had those same numbers for CASH5, 2 were exact and the other three were 1 off, and those were numbers i came up with myself. I was like someone has got to be kidding me!!! Oh well guess I'll just keep trying. AND I WILL HIT IT ONE DAY!!!

ROGER, are you serious? Cash5 is the only draw game where you can win big bucks ($50 & Up) for just a dollar. Why would you want them to increase the price ??? Makes no sense to me to want an increase in the ticket price. Sales would decrease just like they have with PB & MM.

Hey, NC Lottery. Y'all might as well change Cash5 top prize to 100,000.. Time to move up to the two dollar ticket, like the rest of the Big games. Having a lots of winners since it was started Aug 1st. Even had a winner on the first drawing on August 1st from Charlotte, NC. Then on 8-8-2018 another winner from Charlotte. Salisbury winner on 8-10-2018. Ocean Isle Beach winner on the 8-13-2018.. So four winners, in first 2 and half weeks of August, WOW! I have been playing Cash5 ever since it was started. Won 4 numbers right just two times, one in 2012 and 2016.. Nothing since then, but Lots of dollar wins, not so many 3 numbers win. So 2 bucks now want matter to me, cause I will keep on playing until I win the BIG ONE! Good Luck everyone! NC Lottery

SCHMEKA W I would not post your numbers for all to see. One of these days you will hit and someone else will be playing your numbers and then you will lose half of your winnings. @MIKE S.: Hi Mike, Great question. Yes, the policy that is currently in place applies to all second-chance and Lucke-Rewards drawings. If a top prize goes unclaimed and an alternate must be selected, all winners are moved up and we award the second-tier prize to an alternate. The process that we follow is a best practice throughout the lottery industry and is the most fair way to reward players who entered.

You know it's stunning when you check the rewards/2nd chance winners and instantly recognize names of repeat winners. NCEL just crowned a 6 time rewards/2nd chance winner. As for "alternate" winners, exactly what is the rule? The last Panther's VIP package winner was promoted from a lower level prize that they already claimed and an "alternate" was given the lower level prize instead of the top prize. The rules state that you can win once per drawing, you shouldn't be able to forfeit a prize you've already claimed to get a "second" second chance at a top prize. Does this "rule" of promoting existing prize winners to higher level unclaimed/forfeited prizes apply to all second chance drawings? NC Lottery

Hi Brenda, You can use your Lucke-Rewards points to enter our monthly and weekly Lucke-Rewards drawings. All you need to do is click the "Enter" icon once you have signed into your account. On that page, you will see current drawings and can simply click the blue "Enter" button for the drawings you are interested in. Hope this helps!

There was a time when you did not have to request the location of the winning ticket. After &am, refresh the web page and the information would appear.
