Guilford County man wins $110,000 Cash 5 jackpot

Levi Graves of Climax is celebrating after he won a $110,000 Cash 5 jackpot.
 
Graves bought the winning Quick Pick ticket at Surya Merchant on Liberty Road in Greensboro. It beat odds of one in 962,598 to match all five numbers in Saturday’s drawing.

Graves claimed the jackpot Monday at lottery headquarters in Raleigh. After required state and federal tax withholdings, he took home $77,825.

Cash 5 is a statewide draw game that gives players the chance to win a jackpot every single night. Jackpots start at $100,000. Tickets cost $1 and players can buy tickets at most lottery retailers or through Online Play on the lottery’s website.

Ticket sales from draw games like Cash 5 make it possible for the lottery to raise more than $650 million a year for education. For details on how $33.2 million in lottery funds made a difference in Guilford County last year, click on the “Impact” section of the lottery’s website.

How is it that you play the lottery and buy scratch off tickets at the same store everyday and you finally get a scratch off that wins $100.00 and the store tells you they don’t have the money to pay you and you have to go to another store to cash in such a meager amount. If stores can’t pay you for the prizes that are $500.00 and under, they should not be able to sell the tickets,NC Lottery
We're so sorry for the frustration, Margaret. Often times, smaller retail locations don't keep large quantities of cash on-hand for safety reasons. However, if they can't pay the prize in cash, they should be able to offer payment in the form of check or money order.

Just a side note to the player who inquired a while back if there were any (win it all) prizes on any scratch off tickets? Got a bit lucky last night on a 20.00 Diamond Dazzler and scratched off one that pleasantly revealed 25.00 per number for a nice 500.00! Rare as they may be-they do exist. Happy Hunting!
