Have you heard? Hundreds of Carolina Pick 4 players won big when the numbers 7-7-7-7 came out Monday afternoon. Playing four of the same number in Pick 4 is known as “Quads” and is one of the most popular number combinations among players.
Monday’s drawing produced 1,770 winning tickets and players across North Carolina claimed their winnings Tuesday. Prizes ranged in size from $2,500 to $50,000. At lottery headquarters in Raleigh, the line of lucky players was out the door. Over 60 winners showed up in the first hour.
Alphonja Brooks, a heavy equipment operator in Fayetteville, is a seasoned Quads player.
“I play Quads all year,” Brooks said. “It guarantees when the numbers hit you’ll win the top prize. I checked on my phone right when the drawing happened and I was shocked!”
Brooks had one winning Carolina Pick 4 ticket, so he won $5,000.
“I feel good,” Brooks said. “I just bought a new house so this money will go towards that.”
Cathleen Johnson-Moore had two winning Carolina Pick 4 tickets. She took home $10,000.
“I feel great! I feel fantastic,” Johnson-Moore said. “When I first pulled it up on my phone and saw I had won, all I could think was, ‘Really?’”
Johnson-Moore is a school bus driver and teacher’s aide in Cumberland County and says her students are also excited. “I’ve been a driver and teacher’s aide at the elementary and middle schools near Fort Bragg for 20 years,” Johnson-Moore said. “Those students are my kids. When I told my middle school kids I won they were so happy for me!”
Johnson-Moore plans on using some of her winnings to buy her students treats so they can celebrate together.
