Dianetta Foye of Smithfield calls her daughter a lucky charm after she helped her win a $200,000 lottery prize.
“She’s the only reason I won,” Foye said. “I’m so grateful to her.”
Foye’s good fortune started when her adult daughter asked for a scratch-off ticket. Foye stopped by the GT Mart on Wilson’s Mills Road in Smithfield and bought a ticket for her daughter. She also bought a $5 Win It All ticket for herself. She couldn’t wait to bring it home, so she scratched it in the store.
“I saw the numbers and couldn’t believe it,” Foye said. “I looked at the ticket and thought, ‘That can’t be $200,000.’ I couldn’t say anything. I was speechless.”
Foye claimed her prize Wednesday at lottery headquarters in Raleigh. After required state and federal tax withholdings, she took home $141,501. She plans to use the money to take her daughter on a beach vacation.
“We haven’t been to the beach for years,” Foye said. “A family vacation is just what we need.”
