Michael Douglas of Troutman is celebrating after he bought a Bonus Crossword Cash scratch-off ticket and won $150,000.

Douglas bought the $5 ticket at Fast Phil’s on Mocksville Highway in Statesville.

He claimed his prize Monday at lottery headquarters in Raleigh. After required state and federal tax withholdings, he took home $106,126.

Douglas is the first player to win a top prize since Bonus Crossword Cash launched earlier this month. Two $150,000 prizes remain.

Ticket sales from games like Bonus Crossword Cash make it possible for the lottery to raise more than $650 million a year for education. For details on how $10.5 million in lottery funds made a difference in Iredell County last year, click on the “Impact” section of the lottery’s website.
