For Edward Rackley of Nashville, a stop at a McDonalds drive-through to pick up dinner for his kids led to more than a fast food takeaway.
Rackley, who works in the fencing business, stopped by Dollar Country on West Nashville Drive in Nashville on Saturday and purchased the new $200,000 Back Scratch ticket. He then swung by the nearest McDonalds drive-through to get dinner for his kids.
“I had ordered 50 chicken nuggets and four plain hamburgers,” said Rackley. “I figured while I was waiting, I might as well start scratching.”
He looked over the lucky ticket the first time – $200,000. He looked at it a second time – still $200,000. Wanting to know if his eyes were deceiving him, he looked to get a second opinion.
“What does that say?” Rackley asked the McDonalds clerk.
“Two hundred thousand dollars,” the clerk replied.
“She confirmed it,” recalled Rackley. “I was in fact seeing it right.”
Rackley claimed his prize Monday at lottery headquarters in Raleigh. After required state and federal tax withholdings, he took home $141,003. He plans to use some of the money to fix up his car and support his children.
“I know one thing,” said Rackley. “Santa will be good to them this year.”
The $5 ticket launched earlier this month with four top prizes of $200,000. Tickets in the Back Scratch family range from $1 to $10 and offer top prizes from $10,000 to $1 million. If a player turns any of the tickets over, they’ll find up to five more chances to win.
