Thomas Frye of Charlotte said he bought the winning ticket for Monday’s $349,027 Cash 5 jackpot while out doing a good deed.

On Monday, Frye donated an old bed frame to the Salvation Army. On his way back, he stopped at the Adams Mart on East Independence Boulevard in Matthews and bought a ticket.

“I always use a combination of my own numbers and a Quick Pick,” said Frye, a retired real estate salesman. “But this time I decided to use all Quick Pick.”

Frye found out he won the next morning.

“I just kept looking at the tickets,” Frye said. “I had to check the numbers at least three times.”

Frye claimed his prize Wednesday at lottery headquarters in Raleigh. After required state and federal tax withholdings, he took home $246,937. He plans to save the money.

“This is a big boost to our retirement,” Frye said. “It’s amazing to have this. I feel so blessed.”

Cash 5 is a statewide draw game that gives players the chance to win a jackpot every single night. Tickets cost $1 and players can buy tickets at most lottery retailers or through Online Play on the lottery’s website. His ticket beat odds of one in 962,598 to win the jackpot. The jackpot for tonight’s drawing is $120,000.

Ticket sales from draw games like Cash 5 make it possible for the lottery to raise more than $700 million a year for education. For details on how lottery funds help all of North Carolina’s 100 counties, click on the “Impact” section of the lottery’s website https://www.nclottery.com.

25quick cash drawing held 6- 12 very last winner has not come forward , looks like they had plenty of time so who is next ? NC Lottery
Winners of our promotional and second-chance drawings have 30 days to claim their prize. If that time has passed and the winner has not claimed their prize, we begin the process again with an alternate winner. That winner, too, has 30 days to respond and claim. We don't post the winner's name until we the winner has responded.

I noticed on some of the second chance and lucky reward drawings. It may say the drawing is on like 8/7/19. But, there is still no notifications for them. Are they always drawn on the date shown or is there sometimes delays. NC Lottery
Hi Richard! When winners are selected in Second Chance drawings they are typically notified by email within 48 hours. So for a drawing held on a Wednesday, winners can expect a message by 5 p.m. Friday. If a winner does not respond to email notification, we will follow up with a telephone call and, if necessary, send certified mail. We announce a winner’s name only after he or she has responded to a notification and completes the claim process. We understand why folks are eager to find out who won but, until a prize is claimed, we don’t officially have a winner.

Question? On the second chance drawing how long after the drawing date are the winners notified and do you post it before contacting the winner. Also if you can't reach someone by phone do you contact them a second time through email NC Lottery
