Two lucky Mega Millions tickets in North Carolina bring home a combined $5 million in prizes

Two big wins occurred Tuesday night for North Carolina in the Mega Millions drawing as one lucky ticket purchased in Asheville won $1 million and a second bought in Kernersville won $4 milllion.

The $4 million winner purchased the $3 Megaplier ticket in Kernersville using Online Play. The $1 million winner grabbed the $2 ticket at the Enmark Station on Tunnel Road in Asheville.

Both tickets matched all five white balls to win a $1 million prize. The prize for the $3 Megaplier ticket quadrupled to $4 million when the 4X Megaplier hit.

The winning tickets are among five nationally to match all five white balls in Tuesday’s drawing with the other wins occurring in California and Florida. The $4 million win in North Carolina ranked as the largest prize won nationally in the drawing. The odds of matching numbers on all five white balls are 1 in 12.6 million.

Winners have 180 days to claim their prizes.

Since no one won Tuesday’s jackpot, the new jackpot for Friday’s drawing now sits at $228 million as an annuity, or $103.4 in million cash.

Players can buy Mega Millions tickets at any lottery retail location, through Online Play on the lottery’s website or by using the NC Lottery Official Mobile App. The odds of winning a Mega Millions jackpot are 1 in 302 million.

I work at the Enmarket gas station on tunnel Rd, where the winner in Asheville bought the ticket. However, I don't know which of the cashiers sold it. But congrats to the winners

Winning a Megamillion or powerball is like lightning striking you. In NC Winning a pick 3 or pick is like lightning striking also. I've never seen a state that won't bring a trip or quads for its players. Players are complaining

Thanks, I knew I want going crazy so it is like that for the Powerball. So I will now get the $3 Mega ticket and stick to my usual Powerball $2 ticket...I am still awaiting for these states to get that starting point back to $40M and not this $20M because they didn't reduce the numbers back cutting the odds. Come on @NCEL you don't control that, but you have input since we are one of the states that have the game......Show us the money LOL!

At Angela, you're right if you're playing Powerball with Power Play. If the Power Play number is above 2, you just get 2 million, which isn't fair. That's why I was happy for the person playing Mega Millions and the Megaplier was 4. The actually won 4 million. If that had been Powerball, they would have received only 2 million.

I am confused on when the megaplier works and don't work, because I always though if you got the 3 dollar ticket and got all 5 white balls to win a million it would only go to 2 million regardless of the actual number the megaplier was. But you are saying the megaplier works on everything, but the jackpot itself am I correct on this understanding?NC Lottery
