General

Where can I buy tickets?
The NCEL currently has more than 6,800 retailers throughout North Carolina. You can recognize a Lottery retailer by the PLAY HERE signs that are posted in or around their store. To locate a retailer in your area use our zip code search for a list of locations near you. You can also purchase single or multi-draw tickets online in Subscription Services with a verified players club account.
Are prizes taxable?
Yes. All prizes won are subject to Federal and State withholdings. For more specific information, please contact the Internal Revenue Service at 1-800-829-1040 or www.irs.gov.
What happens if I lose a winning ticket?
If you lose your ticket, anyone can claim it. A ticket is a bearer instrument until signed. Unless you sign the ticket, anyone else who has the ticket can claim the prize.
How long do I have to collect a prize?
For instant scratch-off games, you have 90 days from the official announced end of game. If mailed, the ticket must be received by the NCEL within 90 days. Postmarks will not satisfy this requirement. Draw game tickets (like Powerball) must be redeemed within 180 days of the drawing for which the ticket was purchased.
What are the odds of winning a prize in the Lottery?
The odds of winning vary by game and are printed on the back of every instant scratch-off ticket. You can also obtain the odds of a particular game by checking the How to Play section of this website or by picking up a How To Play brochure at your local retailer.
What does "Overall Odds" mean?
Overall odds provide the average amount of winning tickets per game. For example, if a game has odds of 1 in 4, which means for all of the tickets in the entire game, there will be one winning ticket per every four tickets. However, because prizes are distributed randomly throughout a pack, it does not mean that there will be a winning ticket every 4th ticket.
How old do I have to be to play?
You must be at least 18 years of age or older to play.
Can I use a credit card to purchase lottery tickets?
No. Acceptable forms of payment include cash, check, debit card, and gift card at the retailer's discretion.
Can I buy lottery tickets through the mail?
No. North Carolina Education Lottery tickets must be purchased either at a retailer under contract with the Lottery or online in Subscription Services with a verified players club account. In addition, federal law and postal regulations do not allow an unplayed lottery ticket to be mailed across state lines.
Do I have the option of remaining anonymous with regard to the media and the public?
The NCEL will consider a winner's name, city/county, and the prize amount a matter of public record, unless the winner produces a valid protective order or Address Confidentiality Program authorization card.
How can I claim a winning ticket?
Claiming a North Carolina Education Lottery (NCEL) prize is simple. A winning ticket must be presented and verified in order to receive your prize. A NCEL ticket is a bearer instrument until signed.

• Prizes with a value of $599 or less, including free tickets, can be collected at any NCEL retailer or Regional Office, or by mail using a NCEL prize claim form.
• Prizes with a value between $600 and $99,999.99 must be claimed at NCEL headquarters, any NCEL Regional Office, or by mail using a NCEL prize claim form. Prizes of $100,000 or more must be claimed in person at NCEL headquarters.
• For all prizes of $600 and above photo I.D. and proof of Social Security number is required.
Can I claim my prize by mail?
Yes.

Visit nclottery.com/MobileApp to learn more about the app and link directly to it in the App Store for Apple users. Of course you can! The new website is fully responsive, meaning the site adjusts based on the device you're using to access it. For mobile users, the main menu items are available in the upper left corner that looks like a hamburger (Play Now, Games, Win, Impact, About, and Play Responsibly). The sub menus aren't available by drop down but if you click on a main menu item, it will take you to a landing page which includes links to all of those sub menu items.
How can I purchase games online?
The first step to being able to purchase games online is to create a Player's Club account. New users can register for an account by clicking on Sign In in the top right corner of the website. This takes you to a page where you can sign in if you already have an account or click the Register button to sign up.

Once you have a Player's Club account, you will need to upgrade your account for Online Play to be able to make purchases. You will need to:

• Provide the last 4 digits of your social security number.
• Choose a security question and answer.
• Create a secure 4-digit PIN.
• Agree to the Terms of Service.

Lucke-Rewards

What is Lucke-Rewards?
Lucke-Rewards is a player rewards program within the Lucke-Zone that allows players to earn points for all scratch off tickets and draw games. Points are used to enter weekly and monthly drawings for chances to win cash and other great prizes!

All tickets that include a Lucke-Rewards Entry Code printed on the ticket. Click here for a list of eligible scratch-off games. Eligible draw games include Pick 3, Pick 4, Cash 5, Mega Millions, Powerball, All or Nothing, and Lucky For Life. The Lucke-Rewards Entry Code on a draw game ticket expires 180 days from the purchase date printed on the ticket.
Do I have to wait for all of the drawings to occur to enter my draw game tickets into Lucke-Rewards?
No, if a Cash 5, Mega Millions, Powerball, All or Nothing ticket or Lucky For Life has an Entry Code printed on it, you can enter it for Lucke-Rewards points immediately. Pick 3 and Pick 4 tickets can be entered for points the day after purchase. Make sure you enter your Entry Code from the ticket into Lucke-Rewards PRIOR to claiming/cashing in a winning ticket. As per NCEL policy and procedures a retailer will not be able to return a validated winning ticket to you. For multiple draw tickets, the Entry code will only be printed on the first exchange ticket.
Will you still hold Second Chance drawings?
Yes! For eligible games, in addition to an entry into a second chance drawing or other promotional drawing, you will also receive Lucke-Rewards points for qualifying tickets.
What do I do with my Lucke-Rewards points?
You can use your Lucke-Rewards points to enter a variety of different drawings for cash and other prizes. The more eligible tickets you enter, the more Lucke-Rewards points you will earn.
How many Lucke-Rewards points do I get for each ticket?
The number of points awarded on each ticket will vary. An eligible ticket will earn at least the same number of points as the price of the ticket. For example, a $5 scratch-off ticket or a $5 Carolina Cash 5 wager on one ticket will earn at least 5 points. However, sometimes tickets may earn MORE points as a bonus. After submitting the entry numbers from each ticket, the number of points you have been awarded will appear on the page.
Can I combine accounts or transfer points?
No. Points cannot be transferred from one account to another, and accounts cannot be combined, even if both accounts belong to you. If you need to make changes to your account such as your email address, you should not create a new account. Instead, click the My Account link at the top of the page to make the changes.

Account

How do I deactivate my Lucke-Rewards account?

In the "Description of Issue" field, indicate that you would like to deactivate your current account. Be sure to include the username and email address associated with the account. Once you submit the form you will no longer be able to sign into the Player's Club or participate in the Lucke-Rewards program with the deactivated account, which will include the loss of points, drawing entries, email preferences, and other account-related settings.

Accounts that have been upgraded for Online Play cannot be deactivated. However, if you have upgraded your account and wish to exclude yourself from buying online, use the Self-Exclusion option under Limits in your account settings. Please note that self-exclusions cannot be reversed.

Ticket Entry

What numbers do I enter?
Please refer to the diagrams under the Find Ticket Entry Code section on the Ticket Entry page to be sure you are entering the correct numbers. For each scratch-off ticket, enter the Ticket Number, which is the 12-digit number on the back of the ticket above the barcode in the form XXX-XXXXXX-XXX. Then enter the Entry Number, which is the 12-digit number on the front of the ticket located in the scratch off area in the form XXXXXXXX-XXXX. Be sure to scratch the ticket completely to find the full Entry Number. For draw game tickets (like Powerball®), the Lucke-Rewards Entry Code contains 25 letters and numbers separated by dashes (XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX) and is located on the front of the ticket.
Can I scan my tickets for quicker ticket entry?
Yes. With the Lucke-Zone mobile App ticket entry is easy. The App allows you to scan the bar code on your ticket directly to the Lucke-Rewards ticket entry page using your mobile device's camera. No manual entry is needed. For scratch off tickets scan the barcode located under the scratch off coating. For draw game tickets scan the barcode located under the Lucke-Rewards 25 digit code.
The Lucke-Zone App is available in the App Store for Apple devices and on Google Play for Android devices.
My ticket entry is not being accepted. What can I do?
If you have a scratch-off ticket, check your ticket to confirm that it is an eligible game. Next, confirm that you are entering the correct digits from your ticket. Refer to the Find Ticket Entry Code section on the Ticket Entry page for diagrams of where to find the Entry and Ticket numbers. Then, check that all the scratch-off covering has been removed from around the Entry Number and is not causing a "0" to look like an "8," for example. If you still cannot enter the ticket, please visit the Help page and fill out a Help form. Be sure to include all the ticket number information. If you have a draw game ticket, make sure it has a Lucke-Rewards Entry Code printed on it. If there isn't an Entry Code, then it is not eligible ticket.
Why can't I enter my Pick 3 or Pick 4 Lucke-Rewards Entry Code?
Because tickets for these games may be canceled within an established period of time, players must wait until the day after the purchase to enter tickets. Cancelled Pick 3 or Pick 4 tickets are not eligible.
How can I be sure that my entry has been submitted?
When you submit your entry, you will see a confirmation message identifying the ticket number of the entry and telling you that your entry has been recorded. You can also see your entries by clicking "View your entry history" on the Enter Tickets page.
Once I've entered my ticket information, do I need to keep the original ticket in case I win a prize?
No. After the ticket information is successfully submitted as an entry, the original ticket is not required to claim a Lucke-Rewards prize.
May I mail in my tickets for Lucke-Rewards?
No. Eligible tickets must be submitted through the Lucke-Rewards website. Tickets sent via any other method, including US Mail, drop-off, etc., will be discarded.
Why did I get locked out of the entry program?
If you make ten (10) consecutive unsuccessful attempts to enter a ticket, you will be locked out of the system for 24 hours. This is a security feature to help prevent fraudulent entry.

What are my odds of winning a drawing?
Odds of winning a prize will vary based on the total number of entries that are received for a drawing and the total number of entries that you have submitted.

Can I enter a drawing more than once?

Can I cancel my drawing entries?
